It has been decided - Opium Toad March 26, 2008
Posted by Sharny in : Life, Music, Scraps , add a commentYes, Opium Toad is the name of our band. This post is kinda to see if google will finally index myspace.com/opiumtoad and opiumtoad.com but it acts as an announcement.
We have one song complete, a few covers we can play solidly and a lot more of our own material in the works. I’m pretty confident that we can get somewhere as I really like some of the stuff that we’ve got so far. Our completed song has been received well by everyone that has heard it (and no, it wasn’t just our family members). We may well have a couple of gigs lined up for the coming months, we’re gonna approach them with a sort of try our best but if it fails we don’t care very much if it fails as it is early days.
Finally resurrected March 14, 2008
Posted by Sharny in : Scraps , add a commentYes, it has taken me a LONG time since the host switch to get this place back online, I don’t think it really matters that much though given that no one really read this blog anyway. I was probably going to just keep it dead forever but recently I’ve gotten a bit of a writing bug again. I think this time around I will try to be more organized, my posts will generally focus on the world around me, the music I’m into, world of warcraft stuff and also bits about my life.
I’ve just backed up what posts I could from an sql dump I had but its not really worked properly so I’m not really sure what I’m going to do about that, especially since what I thought of as some of my better posts have been lost in the process somewhere. If I can’t get it to work out I’ll just start again afresh. Edit - I do seem to have most posts back now although none of them have a category and some make no real sense now, I think I’ll have a bit of a sort through and just keep the still relevant ones.
Anyways, hopefully with a bit more focus I can conjure something of use out of this blog again - we’ll see how it goes.
Realisation May 8, 2007
Posted by Sharny in : Scraps , add a commentThe kid who didn’t realise I am a guy briefly talked to me today. He seemed genuinely surprised that I am actually a man. Not a great boost to the old self-esteem there. Of course, its actually just funny that he seems to have difficulty recognising my…err…being a male.
Today has been quite a hazy day, feels a bit like a dream. Pretty crap really. Nothing really happened bad or anything it just feels sort of strange. Everything is pretty much on target otherwise, not much to report to the all seeing internet, although I do have the joy of “looking forward” to the may ball next Friday, no idea how that is going to go, I guess we’ll see.
Spider-man 3 May 7, 2007
Posted by Sharny in : Entertainment, Scraps , add a commentWe went (me and friends) to see Spider-man 3 on sunday. Overall I thought it was really quite a good film. The action was top notch and the effects worked very well, the battles were fast paced and on pretty big scales. There was also good storyline and drama with strong underlying messages. More of a surprise was the humour, actually. There were lots of bits where it was actually very funny and I enjoyed that, I like a good bit of humour. It hasn’t been getting the greatest reviews, I’ve seen people complaining about the cheesiness but actually I quite liked it, it was pretty entertaining. Overall my opinion is pretty useless but I did enjoy it so…err…there we go. One thing I did find funny was that all the characters seem to be able to circumvent the physics of free fall, it took them a loooong time to fall. Either that or the gravity on this earth is much weaker than ours.
Gender recognition issues, apparently May 4, 2007
Posted by Sharny in : Scraps , 1 comment so farAs I already said on Friday I came to school dressed as a pirate. Now, of course there were no doubt loads of things said about me either to my face or behind my back and I don’t really care as to the nature of these comments or anything like that. What it is that has kinda stood out to me is when I heard a kid refer to me as a “pirate woman”. Firstly we should probably consider the irony of that statement coming from a pre pubescent squeaky boy with long hair. Err yeah. Perhaps with the costume on his poor little senses just got overloaded and he mistook me, in a male pirate costume, for a woman…in a male pirate costume? Mhhmmm… Perhaps the stranger part of this is that when he saw me again yesterday he said to his friend something about a pirate woman again. Now here is where I’ve got to start having doubts about what I shall now dub gender recognition. Really, I’ve not had people doubt my gender so obviously since I was little and also had shoulder length hair, which, to be fair, would probably throw people off. Back then I found it very hurtful but now its just odd.
If my slightly-in-need-of-a-shave facial hair wasn’t enough to point him in the right direction you would think my not particularly feminine clothes may have helped. Or maybe my quite broad build. Even though I can tell that this was generally quite stupid of him I can’t help feeling a slight blow to my masculinity. After all, I think most men don’t exactly like being mistaken for the opposite sex. There isn’t really much of a conclusion to this, its just quite strange…and funny.
